Three objectives guide our work at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (SCI). First, SCI continues to meet the demand in Singapore and the region for well-trained personnel to staff the media industry and information services. It does so through its quality undergraduate and graduate communication and information degree programmes.

Second, SCI has become a premier research institution that generates empirical and humanistic analyses of communication topics and policy issues important to Singapore and the region. Faculty members publish their research and showcase their creative works in international journals and forums.

Third, SCI continues to establish and maintain an international network of educators, researchers, and info-comm professionals through collaborative projects, conferences and other exchanges.

The School’s curriculum, programmes and activities are designed to move SCI forward in achieving our three key objectives. International recruitment of academic and professional faculty, state-of-the-art communication laboratories, and global institutional affiliations ensure that the School remains a world-class Centre of Excellence.

So you’re thinking of a career in the Media? Well, you’ve come to the right place at SCI. A career in media is an exciting and rewarding prospect. The industry is fast moving, vibrant and sheer energy. It is definitely fun, but being a media professional is also about discipline, responsibility and hard work. And your training starts here at SCI. Whether you’re aiming to make it as a major media player, in front of the screen, behind the scenes or in the periphery of media, you’ll find that SCI prepares and propels you into a career in the media limelight. You’ll learn the ropes from seasoned professionals, and what it takes to succeed in media. From journalism to public relations, from TV production to information technology, you will pick up an essential grasp of what media is completely about. You will gain hands-on experience in a great environment, as you learn how to take charge in various aspects of media. We don’t believe in mere theoretical education. We have plenty of modern, state-of-the-art facilities to complement your learning process. TV studios, Radio Production studios, focus group rooms - we have every tool you need to prepare yourself for the real world. We believe your education should be as individual as you are. That’s why we allow you to design your own programme. You can choose any one of the following divisions to specialise in:

• Division of Journalism and Publishing • Division of Electronic and Broadcast Media • Division of Public and Promotional Communication • Division of Communication Research • Division of Information Studies (Graduate Level)

At SCI, you will be able to receive a multidisciplinary education. Pursue your other interests by reading a Minor subject offered at any of the six other schools in NTU, and even at the National Institute of Education (NIE). SCI also attracts some of the best students from Singapore and abroad, so as a student in our school, you’ll also enjoy a unique cultural experience!
