Welcome to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of the National University of Singapore! We are one of the largest Faculties in the University with 15 departments and programmes and a Centre for Language Studies, offering the most comprehensive range of humanities and social sciences in this part of the world.

We offer our undergraduates a fulfilling and stimulating educational experience with a range of programmes that are rigorous, challenging, and innovative. Depth of knowledge is assured through the study of majors in the Faculty, while breadth to explore other kinds of knowledge in areas outside the major, like Science, Engineering, Law and Computing, is also catered for. International exposure through exchange and summer programmes, and self-discovery through independent learning are opportunities open to all FASS students.

Graduate students will find the Faculty to be the Faculty of choice, particularly in Asian Studies; and to attract the best who will thrive in and contribute to the vibrant research culture in the Faculty, attractive scholarships and research grants are offered to graduate students.

A focus on Asia has united much of the research done in the Faculty. This focus underscored the Faculty’s commitment to achieve excellence in the study of Asia by extending the boundaries of scholarship and knowledge of all aspects of this dynamic and important region. To develop our research further, six interdisciplinary research clusters have been set up – Global Cities/Urban Studies; Cognition and Behaviour; Health; Migration; Religion; Science and Technology. In each of these areas, the Faculty has already built up considerable expertise and the establishment of these research clusters is expected to further strengthen research collaboration within the Faculty, and also with partners within and beyond the University. To facilitate high quality research activities in the Faculty, the necessary environment, resources and opportunities are provided and created as far as possible.

Much of what we do would not be meaningful nor possible without the support of our alumni. Having developed crucial skills like critical thinking, analysis, problem solving, written and oral communication during their years with us, our alumni have been most encouraging and supportive of the many innovations in teaching and research that we constantly strive for and achieve. Many maintain active and meaningful links with us, providing generously of their time and advice too.

I invite you to come discover for yourself the rich offerings in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. See why we were a Faculty of choice for more than 50,000 alumni and are still a Faculty of choice for more than 1,500 every year!
